Social Graces focuses on creating an enjoyable and supportive atmosphere for all students.
“Etiquette means behaving yourself a little better than is absolutely essential.”
- Will Cuppy
To enhance your class experience, consider the following guidelines, which are based on common courtesy and fostering a positive learning environment:
- Line Of Dance: Familiarize yourself with Latin and Smooth dance styles. Smooth dances travel counterclockwise around the room, maintaining an oval shape about four or five feet from the wall.
- New Faces: As a welcoming dance studio, we encourage students to be friendly and mannerly toward newcomers. Acting as ambassadors, we strive to make everyone’s experience pleasant and enjoyable.
- Correcting Your Partner: Allow the instructor to teach and correct all students. More experienced dancers should be patient and supportive with beginners, rather than critiquing them.
- Asking For A Dance: Both men and women can invite others to dance, regardless of their relationship status. If you must decline a dance invitation, remember to reject the dance, not the person.
- Bumping Into People: Accidents happen. If you bump into someone, stop, apologize, and resume dancing.
- Attire: Dress comfortably for dance events, unless designated as “black tie” or “formal.” Wearing clothes that accentuate movements or evoke the dance’s emotion can enhance your experience.
- Shoes: Initially, shoes may not be a concern, but as you progress, consider investing in ballroom shoes. Slippery shoes are generally easier to dance in.
- Hygiene: Be mindful of personal hygiene, as you’ll be in close proximity to your partner.
By adhering to these simple guidelines, you’ll contribute to a positive and enjoyable learning environment at Social Graces Ballroom Dance Studio. Remember, the ultimate goal is to have fun, interact socially, and grow as a dancer.
